22 ATTITUDE

I Prefer the Dam-Funk of old Personally.... The new tunes from Dam are great, but this is what I'm talking about. Straight basement style, Nasty, Raw, soulful funk. Even the changes on these old recordings are superior. Just my opinion. Cant wait for "Adolescent Funk" to drop October 26 2010

Leaning more to the HOUSE SOUNDS its definitely worth picking up for that late night DEEP crowd. HUDSON MOWHAWKE

The days of Live bands/Concert seems to been taking back stage to the young and rising stars of tomorrow. Live Drummers seem to be replaced by Midi Key Boards fully loaded with samples and a arsenal of synth patches with one singal mistro behind a laptop. I know its hard for most of MY readers to swallow, but that's the truth.

I must admit some the music is good, most bad but here's one kid that's making some noise. I recently posted "Rising 5" by Hudson Mohawke on my Podcast awhile back which had some people talking. This kid is already shooting for the starts.

CARLSBAD ART CRAWL

Big up Bryan Snyder for show casing local art and gatherings on the coastal North County side of San Diego. Nice to see you have things on lock with the Carlsbad Art Crawl.

BREAK STREET - 1984

Breakdancing sim for the Commodore 64. Players take control of a breakdancer and execute moves to the soundtrack selection. Classic moves include the "moon", a version of the familiar moonwalk, the "tut" (complete with crooked hands and sideways head motion to mimic the old wall paintings), the swinging "uprock", the spinning "footwork" (probably the move most associated with breakdancing, where you scramble your feet in a tight pattern while you spin in a circle near the ground), the "headspin" (not a good idea without a decent mat beneath you, at least in real life), "knee spin", the wild "windmill", "poppin'", "handspin", "scorpion," the "wave", the "check", and the "freeze."

Players can warm up, or they can record their performance with a record feature, then take on competitors, trying to keep your style bar up in the time allotted.

STEVE ARRINGTON = G-FUNK

Stones Throw has announced an upcoming album from former Slave frontman and funk music OG Steve Arrington to be entirely produced by Dam-Funk. "I Be Trippin" is the first taste of their collaboration—although Arrington did also guest on "4 My Homies" on Dam-Funk's "Hood Pass Intact" 12"—and it finds Dam cooking up a classic-sounding, laid-back, feel-good West Coast beat complete with bubbling synth pads, some classy electric piano, and a fat bassline. Layers of Arrington's vocal float over the beat going through some of the many scenarios where he be "trippin" and throwing out commands to "drop that funk." This track is a must for any slow-motion pool party/bbq you've been planning. No word on when the album is due, but we'll let you know as soon as we do.

I'M STILL HERE

The Infamous Joaquin Phoenix stencil can be seen all over the streets of San Francisco. This one appeared around the corner from my house the other day so I had to capture it.

Not sure if this is cleaver way for HOLLY WOOD to promote the new Documentary on the Joaquin Phoenix melt down, but the buzz is definitely making noise and the art directions is super cool. Great idea for using stencils to create a ruckus. I will give you my 2 cents once I actually pay to see this infamous break down.

I heard there is some footage of Joaquin Phoenix at FUNKMOSPHERE from 2009 . I heard he was there awhile back with a camera crew and there was some small drama. Lets see if it made it to the big screen.

STEVE WALLACE

Great album from 2009 Steve Wallace is picking up where Dwele fell off. Steve Wallace has been around for ages, and I think he's about to make even bigger noise in the next few years. This is some Hood soul, and the boy that came from the streets is telling you about where he's from...

Oh and I added one track that that was flipped real nice. Sampling "Camplo's - Luchin" Steve pulls this one off with a modern twist, great tune for your early club set.

STEVE WALLACE - ITS YOUR 2009

FRAYNE

As son of the great Ramsey Lewis, Frayne Lewis likely learned a few things about jazz and R&B along the way. As one of the members of the Urban Knights projects, he also likely learned something about the fusion of smooth jazz, R&B, and hip-hop. On this, his debut album, he goes full force into smooth R&B. The music is deep in the traditions of '90s R&B, quiet storm tip.

FRYNE - WEEKEND 2004

RUSSELL TAYLOR

Bringing the Mature R&B game back Russell Taylor is taking the underground club scene by storm with his latest album "Confessional" This is deffinetly a mainstream R&B album that a true R&B digger can appreciate. The beats are driven by that boom bap slap, and there's plenty modern Synths that would make an Asian kid go crazy. Believe when I say you'll be hearing about Russell Taylor in the near future

DENNIS TAYLOR - MAD, 1 MORE NIGHT

ADOLESCENT FUNK

“New” album recorded 1988-1992, coming October 26 on Stones Throw

Dam-Funk, to many, is a new name from the past year or two, but what we see and hear from him is a great deal more interesting than a new and emerging artist with a sound influenced from the golden era of electro-funk. Dam-Funk is the real deal. He has been recording for himself for two decades, developing his work to his own taste, and using equipment like the Korg M1, Linn Drum, and Casio SK-1 since the days when many other musicians considered them novelty electronics rather than instruments.

At the request of Peanut Butter Wolf, Dam went through many of these recordings, all made on cassette, going back to his teenage years. As Wolf tells it, “Dam told me, ‘this is your project Wolf. Do whatever you want with it. I leave it in your hands. I don't even wanna see it til it's done. Have fun.’”

The result is Dam-Fun's Adolescent Funk, a 14-track album recorded between 1988 and 1992. This will be released October 26 on LP, CD and digital. Two tracks, It's My Life/I Like Your Big Azz (Girl) were released on 7-inch earlier this year.

CECILE AND VENICE

Cécile & Venice are two Italian producers with a love for synth strings, electro beats and baroque music. About a year ago they released the two beautiful tracks Requiem and White Holes which both have a unmistakable classical baroque feeling to them. At the same time they are extremely catchy electrosynth tracks with beautiful bass lines.

Disco Punk madness, including all the Bleeps and quirks that you kids like in your production. See I'm not an old man, I like the NEW sounds :)

THIS IS HOW DO IT IN THE PARK (LABOR DAY)

I couldn't of asked for a better Labor Day weekend. It all kicked off SUNDAY at Sweater Funk where we had yet again another amazing night and we raised more than enough to fix our Sound System.

Following the Massacre, a bunch of us decompressed over at Dolores Park on Monday. The weather was beautiful (high 80s) and people were out in full force. There's no better way to spend the day in the park with good friends, a 45 session and good food. I took some PICTURES from our fiasco if you care to check them out.

FOR GET F**CK YOU - ITS ALL ABOUT I WANT YOU

I heard Gilles Peterson drop "I want you" a few weeks back and song blew my mind. Some mid-tempo Modern Soul. The strings are so smooth and Cee-Lo just kills it with sentimental lyrics. I hope there is a 7" inch release on vinyl. I'm all over it

TALKING MACHINES

SWEATER FUNK - LABOR DAY PICTURES

This Past weekend we celebrated Labor Day "Sweater Funk" Style... Sunday prior we blew out the speakers and we all knew the weekend ahead was going to big... Our gracious team capt Jon Blunk made the decision to pay rent late so we could have sound by Labor Day Sunday. Setting Blunk back $200 bucks we set up the donation box in hopes to make some of the money back. By the end of the night we raised enough money so Jon could pay his rent...

A BIG SPECIAL THANK YOU to all who've contributed and donated in the past. Sweater Funk only exists because of your support and our love for the Boogie.

Check out the rest of the PICTURES HERE...
