SOUL JAZZ RECORDS

Available in all good retail and internet stores next week.

BUY

Soul Jazz Records are reissuing this seminal Roy Ayers album, originally released on Roy Ayers own independent Uno Melodic label in 1983. A rare groove classic!

The album is one of Ayers’ deepest releases stylistically, spanning everything from Fela Kuti-Afrobeat to seminal 80s boogie funk. The album includes the super-dark ‘Chicago’, much loved by Moodyman, Theo Parrish and other Detroit minimalists.

Recorded around the time of other seminal Roy Ayers productions such as ‘Eighties Ladies’ and ‘Sylvia Striplin’, this really is as good as it gets.

Remastered from the original master tapes, the CD comes in Soul Jazz Records mini-box-pack edition with limited edition postcards. The vinyl edition comes for the first time ever on super-loud, super-heavyweight gatefold-sleeve double vinyl (making it better than the original!).

KERRI CHANDLER

one of Deep House Music's originators, has been injecting soul into house music since the early nineties. An ambassador of the natural and instinctive 4/4 beat, Kerri's influences can be traced back to New Jersey growing up in a family of jazz musicians. His father being a respected deejay, provided Kerri with a rich background in the origins of soul, disco and the New York Underground Sound. Accompanying his father to the gigs, Kerri began playing records at the Rally Racquet Club in East Orange, New Jersey at the tender age of thirteen. Exposed to such musical creativity, it wasn't long before Kerri found himself interested in production.

DOWN TO THE BONE FEAT ROY AYERS

It’s Funky… Sweaty… Nasty… Danceable Fusion Jazz that cuts Down To The Bone! The name is “Future Boogie” from the UK Groove kings DTTB.

Getting loose since 1995, Stuart Wade and the Down To The Bone crew defy us to stand still while their musical gumbo is cooking. The formula remains the same. Piano + Horns + Funk + a few vocals = Relentless Rhythms. The instrumental trance continues on “Gotcha!”, “We’ve Always Got The Music”, and “In The Pocket”.

Joining DTTB on two tracks is the lovely Hil St Soul, who adds a bit of vocal spice to the mix on “Should’ve Been You” and “The Brighter Side”. Legendary Jazz Fusion trailblazer Roy Ayers teams up with the group for the supercharged jam “Good To Me”.
