JOE BATAAN :: LOST SESSIONS

Lost Sessions – New York 1976

Joe Bataan working in a pronounced dancefloor soul mode! While the legendary Bataan was no stranger to the fusion of Latin, soul and funk, this some of the most club soul oriented sounds from Joe we've ever heard – and the sessions are seeing official release for the first time ever! The recording feature players who worked on Joe's stellar Afrofilipino and features a backdrop of wonderful Afro and Latin percussion and rhythms with the best sounds of the NYC dancefloor soul in the mix – with uptempo and midtempo vocal numbers flirting with disco and modern soul very nicely – with solid lead vocals and groovy female backup! Most tunes bring a bit of harp into the mix for a little more of a soar that plays off the percussion in really cool way. Titles include "Sadie", "When We Get Married", "My Cloud", "I Need Love", a take on the Isaac Hayes "Theme From The Men", "Let Me Kove You", "My Opera" and "I Do Love You".

IMANNI :: I FOUND MY LIGHT :: MODERN SOUL

Great comp from "Reel People" in 2011! If you enjoy the finer side of house/dance music you will value these compilations in its entirety.

Although this comp is not for everyone, there is a special track featuring Imanni " I found my light" that I personally enjoy. I consider this Contemporary/Modern Soul track that can be played with the classics. Meaning, it's a great record!

The song is worth downloading which is why I'm not giving it away. Support the artist and purchase this track if you like it. Google that shit!

FELICIA :: EVERLASTING LOVE

My Boyeee hooked this up for my Birthday early this year, and this 45 hasn't left my turntable in a minute. The smoothed out groove, over the lazy doubled up vocals hit the spot. Loving the synth strings. Modern Soul killer.

FELICIA - EVERLASTING LOVE

INGRAM :: THATS ALL

Ingram hit the spot with "Thats all" on this 1977 self titled LP. Modern Soul choon that's sure to get the dance floor rockin... I'm a big fan of the Ingram family.

PEO :: TONIGHT

Modern goodness from 2008. Don't sleep on Peo production. He is making huge noise across the pond and beyond amongst the Modern Soul community.

After several years working with music on his own Peo was signed to RoastingHouse Music in 2007.---- Peo works in the genres of Pop/RnB/Soul as a beat maker, producer and songwriter. He makes music in other genres as well.

In 2008 his song “Tonight” was released as a single on Sundae Soul records in Germany. The single got a lot of airplay in the UK amongst other countries and reached nr 10 on Solar stations playlist in the UK. The song was also released on a compilation CD in the UK called “Soul Togetherness 2008?. The record was on the hotlist on ITunes.---- In July his song “Tonight” is once again released on single but this time in Japan with a band called White Jam.

OMNI :: DONT BE SELFISH

The group were one of the few last links in the Chicago soul scene at the time – and they've got a good harmony sound that hearkens back to mid 70s work by groups like The Chi-Lites or Windy City. Most tracks are in the midtempo range, with a fair bit of synthesizer and keyboard work – but the vocals are still the strongest part of the record, and they're allowed to shine nicely.

The Lyrics on this tune say it all!!!!

THIS IS SWEATER FUNK

About Sweater Funk:

Our motto: wrong music, wrong place, wrong night...three wrongs make it right! Who in their right mind would go to Chinatown on a Sunday night, get drunk and dance to music nobody cares about? Please help us answer this question! We are a group of soul/boogie collectors and enthusiasts who've come together through the influence of our good friend Dam-Funk whose weekly Monday night at Carbon in Culver City "Funkmosphere" is our inspiration. We hope to bring the same warm vibe to our little underground Chinatown spot. We're focusing on late 70's to early 80's mid tempo soulful boogie and 2-step soul gems all on original wax. Please come down Sunday nights from 9:30pm-1:30am and introduce yourselves to our little family of bon vivants...be prepared to dance!

MATTHEW DAVID

Matthew David has been playing guitar since he was a young child and has played in groups and worked in studios and music stores in the Philadelphia area for years. Since embracing recording engineering as a passion he has been able to bring his creative forces together. He learned his craft from some of the greats in recording and has put his experience in the studio to good use on these songs.

This is funk, echoed down the halls of classic rock. These tunes are the ghosts of music past in the flesh of the latest music of the present. Listen for Queen and you will hear them. Listen for Fishbone and you will hear them too.

His music finds a way to incorporate the big beautiful sounds of your favorite legendary rock records into the raw bones frame of funk music of the seventies. Pick a decade, sixties, seventies and eighties… listen and you will hear those sounds on these tunes. Deep funky drum grooves are complimented by etherial guitar arpeggios and riffs and vocal layering to create some of the most growling, spacial rock tunes I have heard in decades.

These songs are crafted from the bottom up and produced from the top down. The lyrics are integral and meaningful and the music supports them all the way. As writer, producer, vocalist, player and recording engineer, Matthew David commands a level of control from conception to final mastering that allows the songs to be everything that they were meant to be. These songs are not corrupted by outside forces and interests. Each song has been allowed to follow it’s own compass heading and take on it’s own particular singular style to best capture the sentiment and meaning it was meant to convey.

EUMIR DEODATO

Packing records for Happy Hour last Friday, I was rummaging through stacks and pulled out Deodato's "Happy Hour" LP from 82. The track I'm sharing with you is on the slower tempo and the self titled album says it and all. Random fact, Deodato plays all Synths and Keys on this album
