LOW AND SLOW

Lowriders have long been a symbol of cultural tradition and identity. The customized hydraulic setup, candy color paint jobs, chrome detailing and the stylized artistic touch of these cars have evolved from the Chicano community base to the broad spectrum of society. Lowriders: The Art of Low and Slow will explore the passion that comes with creating these vehicles and the history and evolution of lowrider culture. The exhibit will showcase some of the most ornate and visually captivating lowrider vehicles from the local community and beyond.

Dam Funk n Breakin' = Perfect Harmony

EASY STAR ALL-STAR

Over the last few years I have witnessed the DUBSTEP take over. The genre is HOTT right now and personally its hard to keep up. I like some of the sounds but I'm really picky.

I have some great tunes and should probably start sharing more. I figure I wont be playing these around town, maybe you can give them a spin.

I know most of my readers will think Im crazy but FUK it.

Here's one Im feeling right now from Easy Star All-Stars, out of New York. Very organic and Bass heavy.

SATURN NEVER SLEEPS

Check out King Britt's latest side project SATURN NEVER SLEEPS. The concept behind the project is fantastic, but its not for every one.

Saturn Never Sleeps was originally created by music producer King Britt and artist Rucyl for two performances specifically dedicated to the music and sound of Sun-Ra. Inspired by the works of classic electronic innovators like Herbie Hancock, Raymond Scott and Delia Derbyshire, the experiment began July 2009 and continued every month at Painted Bride Art Center in Philadelphia and at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn. SNS is also an independent record label.

CEE-LO GREEN - OLD FASHIONED

Been talking about Oldies for awhile now and glad Cee-Lo stepped in, doing it right.

Mr. Green is now adding to an already happening Modern Soul movement with the anticipation of his new album "The Lady Killer" out November.. The last few leaks have created tremendous buzz in the music community bridging the the gap from serious Soul Collectors to your Weekend Club Warrior.

Check out the latest leak "Old Fashioned" that has been circulating the last few days. Mr. Green has that deep Barry White vibe going on. Non the less a great track.

MARTIN SOLVEIG FEAT LEE FIELDS

Been playing record way to much. Fun party track from Electronic Producer Martin Solveig, alongside funky vocals from the legendary Lee Fields. The Robert Palmer style back up singers can actually sing and not just up there for looks. This will get your party moving, no doubt

You can pick up this tune HERE.

SUNDAE SOUL RECORDINGS

Thanks to the Fam over at Sundae Soul Recordings for delivering another quality Modern Soul tune. It's been a good time in the music scene the last few years. I've noticed small labels popping up that are re leasing timeless records, although they can be hard to find they're worth the search.

I posted this track on my "Modern Soul" mix and had a few people inquiring about this tune so I decided to post it up for you.

This one goes out to all my crossover peeps.

PEO FEAT MIRIJAM - MUST BE LOVE 2009

KARL DENSON

Karl Denson A highly energized funk machine, the album Tiny Universe has been expanding listeners' minds and making them move to animated grooves since 1998. Led by former Lenny Kravitz sax-man Karl Denson, the Tiny Universe brings a dynamic sound that defies categorization.

STUPID TRENDY HIPSTER

This sums up my afternoon/night. Had a few laughs & drinks today over at Cassanova. Some reject Hipster kids came in with shitty records and absolutely sucked. One girl brought a laptop and played straight MP3s. Those of you who say "Who cares as long is the music is good" probably should watch the video below.

UK and SF have some similarities.

This video sums up 2008 to 210. Respect to the really heads still doin it...

Im just sayin....

PERRI

An 80's classic from Perri – a quartet of female singers who are really a cut above most of their contemporaries! The vocals come together in a great mix of harmonies and leads that really points the way towards the En Vogue sound a few years later – and although there's a crossover feel to some of the backings here, the overall sound is a lot less pop than other groups of this nature at the time – still warm and deep at the best moments, and very respectful of the voices.

PERRI - UPSIDE DOWN 1988

D.J. ROGERS

Speaking for the lord, this sought out 12" from D.J. Rogers is a spiritual manual... Serious Gospel Soul. DJ wrote, arranged, and produced all the tracks on this album, and the cuts have a slight nod towards spiritual gospel, with excellent jazzy touches that keep things in a modern vein

ROADSWORTH

Roadsworth began painting the streets of Montreal in the fall of 2001. Initially motivated by a desire for more bike paths in the city and a questioning of "car culture" in general, he continued to develop a language around street markings and other elements of the urban landscape using a primarily stencil based technique. In the fall of 2004, Roadsworth was arrested for his nocturnal activities and charged with 53 counts of mischief. Despite the threat of heavy fines and a criminal record he received a relatively lenient sentence which he attributes in part to the public support he received subsequent to his arrest. Since that time, Roadsworth has received various commissions for his work and continues to be active in both visual art and music.

ANOTHER RHYTHMPLATE REMIX

JR. WALKER AND THE ALLSTARS

An essential tune for the deeper record collector. A lovely Sweet Soul track from Jr. Walker & the Allstars "These Eye's". This one is perfect for that summer day chilling out with your Hyna, sitting in the park, On a Sunday afternoon....

JR. WALKER & THE ALLSTARS - THESE EYES

Oh, these eyes just cry every night for you

And these arms, these arms darlin
Long to hold you once again
The hurtins on me, yeah
I will never be free, no no baby
You made a promise to me, yeah
And you broke it
Girl, you broke it
Oh these eyes,
o, ooo, ooo
These eyes, these eyes, these eyes

Oh, oh these eyes watched you
Bring my world, to an early end
Whoa this heart

Honey, will not accept an end
The hurtins on me yeah
I will never be free, no no baby
You took the vow with me, yeah
You spoke it girl
You spoke it
Whoa, these eyes are cryin
These eyes have seen alot of love
But theyre never gonna see another
One like I had with you
These eyes, are cryin
These eyes have see alot of love
But theyre never gonna see another
One like I had with you

These arms, these arms, these arms
Long to hold you tight, oh yeah
These eyes are cryin
These eyes have seen alot of love
But theyre never gonna see another
One like I had with you, oooh

BAY AREA SOUL - THE NATURAL FOUR

I was going through a bunch of 45's and recorded a few to share this week. This 45 is special to me because it was my POP's record and now its mine, plus The Natural Four is from Oakland California. Great record with great lyrics. Enjoy

THE NATURAL FOUR - WHY SHOULD WE STOP NOW

The original members, from Oakland, California, U.S.A., were:

Chris James
Allen Richardson
John January
and AI Bowden

This group first recorded in 1968 on a small local label called Boola-Boola.

From there they went to ABC Records, and reached the national charts in 1969 with 'Why Should We Stop Now' (number 31 R & B).

In 1970, they achieved some success with the single 'I Thought You Were Mine' for the ABC label and taken from the album 'Good Vibes'.
The group was unable to repeat their success.

Before breaking up in 1971, they recorded an unnoticed single for Bay Area producer Ron Carson that was released on Chess Records.

Chris James organized a new group:
Darryl Canady
Steve 'Strip' Striplin
Ollan Christopher James
and Delmos Whitney

THE NEW YORK SALSA EXPLOSION 1968-1985

Strut are proud to be associated with the greatest and most important Latin American music label of them all, Fania. Tagged “the Latin Motown”, Fania is perhaps most famous for its recordings during the coming of age of salsa from the late ‘60s to the mid-‘80s, when Latin (often Cuban) dance formats like rumba, guaracha, mambo, son and cha cha fused with big band American jazz and the gritty punch of US R&B in the unique melting pot of New York.

Strut begin their programmed of Fania albums with the first in the Fania Essential Recordings series, tracing the development of the many styles that matured on the label from Latin soul to salsa and boogaloo. The first instalment, Salsa Explosion, provides an essential introduction to the classic Fania sound through some of the label’s major artists including Celia Cruz, Mongo Santamaria, Willie Colon, Hector Lav

In joining forces with Fania, the undisputed powerhouse of Latin music labels, Strut hopes to bring a new set of fans into the fold. Salsa Explosion is a wonderful introduction into the vast sea of classic and influential music in the Fania catalog, touching on many of the separate styles that make up the salsa movement. Strut is proud to offer the collection with completely new artwork, liner notes from Latin music afficionado Ernesto Lechner, and a wealth of previously unpublished photos.

ICE CUBE & REV RUN STILL GOT IT

While the BET awards show SUCKED for me (personally) there were a few highlights from the ceremony that I enjoyed. Hands down the Cypher segments stole the show. I saw that LYRICS still matter to some people! Its CLEAR AS DAY that lyrical skills are lacking in today's generation, and it was proven last night. All you heard was AYEEEEEE, YO YO YO, AYEEEEEE, auto tune and a bunch of kids jumping on stage to some stupid dance.....

Also big Thanks to Primo of Gangstarr repping speaking on the life of GURU.
If you missed the ceremony last night don't worry i got you
