VINDAHL :: SERENDIPITY :: TOKYO DAWN

Highly anticipated album from Vindahl.... I've been waiting for this release for some time. My mix "Head Over Heels" is based of his track "Head Over Heels" feat Coco of Quadrion.

‘Serendipity’ is a term used in science to describe an unintentional gain of knowledge, finding something you weren’t expecting to find. This strong pop album by Copenhagen-based producer Ronni Vindahl might offer exactly that, if not even more.

As co-founder of the vanguard soul collective Boom Clap Bachelors, Vindahl has also been involved with numerous offspring projects such as Ivory & Gold, Robi, Kris Mars and Non+. This first album project to be released under his real name has been his secret heart project for more than four years now, its release date being postponed numerous times for further rounds of perfectioning. Of course ‘Serendipity’ is first and foremost a bold electronic indie pop album, but it goes further, integrating insights from his work in philosophy and art galleries into the album concept. Musical influences as diverse as Talking Heads, Trevor Horn and Prince shimmer through, complemented by lyrics often based on themes of duality as the album cover indicates. Guest artists featured on ‘Serenpidity’ include swedish pop star Jenny Wilson, Coco from Quadron and a bonus remix by the Boom Clap Bachelors. An album which is lot more than just an unintentional gain of knowledge, but a serious piece of pop art!

2000BLACK :: DEGO :: NEW ALBUM

The debut solo album reveals Dego’s profound love for the simple physical pleasure of a perfect beat, but also his boundless curiosity for reinventing the most sophisticated elements of classic funk and electro.

Even within a single song, Dego manages to take listeners on a journey across time. “Late Night Fright,” for example, begins by harkening back to the heyday of dub and drum ‘n’ bass, the club ori-ented music of Dego’s youth, before slowly dissolving into a dreamy jazzy soundscape, mirroring Dego’s own musical evolution.
Elsewhere on the album, Dego joins forces with a carefully-selected roster of singers and instrumental collaborators. “We Are Virgo” is a collaboration with jazz multi-instrumentalist Kaidi Tatham, that blends several time signatures, drawing on a rich palette of analog synthesizer sounds. A funky tangle of old-school acid house arpeggios, mixed with a bouncing soul groove, featuring vocals by up
and coming British singer Obenewa, “All That She Knows”

Guests include Georgia Anne Muldrow, Taylor Mcferrin, Sharlene Hector
and many more.

ORIOL

I'm loving this guy Oriol right here. While most of you are sleeping, caught up in Dubstep and Boogie craze there's a new breed of artist pushing and fusing the lost genres of Broken Beat, Breaks and Electronic Dance Music.

Of Spanish and Trinidadian heritage, The Barcelona born (but Cambridge based) Oriol expanded his horizons and learnt his craft at London's broken beat related CDR (also home of Floating Points). With lush synths and a truly fresh sound evoking the summertime grooves of 70s soul and mid 80s electro with a twist.

ADDIQUIT :: PUTTING SAN DIEGO ON THE MAP

Addiquit is an American rapper, singer and songwriter who performs as a solo MC. While you can hear the influence of hip-hop, the style seems to be emerging with something so fresh its indefinable. She's a sharp, lyrical vandal with an airy voice and street-smart beats.

The San Diego native "Addiquit" is putting her city on the map with her unique MC skills. Currently in the studio Addiquit is working on her highly anticipated debut album which should be out sometime this year. If you like Nu Disco with snazzy vocals you will dig "Take You Home".

SLOPE :: THE HOMEBOY EP

WOW, There is so much music floating around it's really hard to keep up. No wonder this EP slipped through the cracks.

Paying homage to the late 80's early 90s New Jack, R&B music, the Duo out of Berlin which goes by SLOPE is mainly know for there unique Uptempo Electronic Dance floor, and Futuristic Down-Tempo rhythms. In know time you'll be saying "This came out in 2008" Yes, it did!

This EP is slamming with 4 throw back jams. The Homeboy EP will have you second guessing, could this be a lost member of New Edition who went into hiding and started leaking old tracks? The EP is well rounded including 2 Midtempo jams (Could it be love & Homeboy), One Uptempo (Please be mine) and of course a slow jam.

Excellent work fellas. Hear The Sounds Supports!!!

REDNOSE DISTRIKT

Rednose Distrikt started out as a collaboration between two Amsterdam based artists, Kid Sublime and Steven de Peven. Kid Sublime left Rednose Distrikt and his place has since been taken by Aardvarck.

Soundwise the change in the group has had no effects, they still experiment with everything that ranges from broken-beat, off-side techno, cut-up soul or sample-slapstick-jazz.

FYI - Scumbag is a remake of Keni Burke's 'Risin' To The Top'.

SIMBAD SUPERSONIC REVOLUTION VOL 1

The man like Flying Lotus pulled out another essential Brainfeeder podcast late last night which I caught and rebroadcast on our Twitter. After giving it a second listen this morning on the commute (it had me getting in at double time, which was useful, cos I was 20 minutes late!), thought it might be worth highlighting here, as this one really is just plain ridiculous. One of our favourite DJs Simbad is on mixing duties and this 71 minute mix has everything you could ever need: Burial-esque dubstep, deep house, banging future music, all interwoven with clever movie and news samples. No tracklist unfortunately (Simbad actually posted a tracklist up this afternoon on his myspace) but when he ramps the whole thing up around the 35 minute mark, it really does take it to whole nutha level. Heavily recommended as its a banger.

ElectroBassFantastic

Last night I was digging through my hard drives and I found some demo mixes from 2005 and 2006. One in particular was intended to be a promo for some clubs in Denver. For whatever reason the mix was never finalized. Figured I better share them before I forget again or the drive craps out. Unfortunately there is no track list but most of the songs are bootleg and white label vinyl. In other words you are going to have a very hard time finding them. In fact I doubt I could even find them and they are in my studio. Yes I said vinyl as in black devilish seductive disks with music on them. The fidelity of the mix was surprisingly impressive. Even when recorded to digital the tracks sound exceptionally analog. FYI this mix is what I like to call actual electro not electro house. This is by no means untsa untsa. Not that there is anything wrong with untsa untsa but I do grow weary 21 year old Ableton DJ kids claiming that they spin electro when its nothing more then house music. This is why when I'm describing electro to people I call it electro electro. Then they are like ahhhhh electro electro. Same thing works with techno. Q: Is this techno music? A: Well yes but its not techno techno.

SOUNDS OF TIJUANA B.C.

I'VE BEEN FEELING "NORTEC COLLECTIVE" CATS FROM TJ FOR SOMETIME. I USUALLY CHECK IN ON THEM AND SEE WHATS NEW DOWN SOUTH. CAUGHT THE LIVE ACT A FEW TIMES DURING THE EARLY 90'S DOWN IN TJ. BEST EXPERIENCE WAS AT A RAVE IN A BULL FIGHTING ARENA WITH FUNKY TECHNO TRIBE DJ'S AND NORTEC COLLECTIVE WAS THE HEADLINER. I REMEMBER A LOT OF PEOPLE, LIGHTS AND GOOD MUSIC. EVERYTHING ELSE IS BLURRY.

THESE CATS ARE MULTI TALENTED IN THE MULTIMEDIA. PEEP THERE ART WORK AND PROPAGANDA ALL OVER THE BORDER. MAKE SURE YOU CATCH A LIVE SHOW

HENRIK SCHWARTZ

HENRIK SCHARTZ MAKES THE MOST INTERESTING TECHNO/ELECTRONIC MUSIC WITH HEAVY JAZZ/SOULFUL INFLUENCE. ITS RARE THESE DAYS TO BE DIVERSE AMONG A SEA OF BANGING ELECTRO, AND GHB FUELED UP MUSIC. I LOVE THE VARIETY OF SYNTHS HENRIK USES WITH DEEP SOULFUL VOCALS ACCOMPANIED BY JAZZY PIANO RIFFS. LOVE IT

STRAIGHT CLASSIC. IF YOU EVER SEE ANY OF THERE VINYL SNAG IT UP. THIS IS TIMELESS MUSIC. I STILL LOVING PLAYING THESES RECORDS.
