AMALIA :: TOKYO DAWNS FIRST LADY

NEW ALBUM ALERT!!!!!

The lovely and Talented "Amalia" Aka "Tokyo Dawns - First Lady" has a brand new album titled "Art Slave" and I highly recommend you pick this up. The album is all across the board but maintains a futuristic soul sound. There is a heavy 90s feel crossing genres like New Jack, to late 80s & 90s Pop Dance & House sounds. For all you Bass heads, Amalia did not forget about you including the track titled "Zebra Butt-A-Fly" & "Freeze That remix" which is a nod to the futuristic hip hop/dubstep sound. Heavy... You can preview and purchase the album HERE.

Here I am across the pond talking music, "Gino Vanelli" of all artist in the world with Amalia. I must say we connected right away. I also found out Amalia has Bay Area roots with family in Daly City - Small world. We already discussed the idea of doing a show together if she tours to the states. Hold tight - TBA.

Enjoy this free track from the album - I'm a huge of Atjazz and was pleased to find this remix on the album.

NEOZOON :: NEXT LEVEL IN STREET ART

Talk about changing the Street Art Game!

Neozoon
is a collective of female street artist that create wall art using old fur coats. The installations are second hand furs cut into silhouettes of animals. The pieces each use a different animal and a different fur each time. While most of their installations consists of silhouettes they have also recently begun exploring the third dimension, molding furs into forms that resemble animals such as monkeys. These fur forms are them placed on trees and other obstacles in the urban environment, appearing to be playful zoo animals in the city.

GATO BARBIERI

As a youth I remember my POP's being a Vinyl Record collector like most parents, but my Pops always had diverse tunes from Soul to Jazz. Pop's "Being a Car Club Guy (L.A. 70s)" always played music to cruise to and you would often find Latin Jazz from Gato Barbieri blasting out the speakers, 24/7. At that specific time I though Jazz music was Loud obnoxious Horns... Wow, now I look back at this particular moment realizing this record changed my point of view on what I though Jazz music is all about. Caliente is Latin Jazz or Chicano Funk by Gato Batbieri

The album on which a fire-breathing revolutionary transformed himself into a smooth Latin love man, under the guidance of producer Herb Alpert and associate producer Michelle (Mrs. Gato) Barbieri. The rhythm tracks are tight and funky in a facile '70s fuzak sort of way, and Jay Chattaway's CTI-inspired orchestrations sound dated and corny but effective. The arrangements conspire to stifle the Third World scream in Barbieri's raw and impassioned tenor sax tone. Yet he still manages to mate the steamy temperament of the tango with upscale funk on covers of Santana's "Europa" and Marvin Gaye's "I Want You."

This is track that did it for me.....

DAM FUNK :: SNOOP DOGG :: G-FUNK

THEO PARRISH :: SOUND SIGNATURE

Nothing beats Theo Parrish tracks on a cold, murky, rainy San Francisco afternoon. I can appreciate the Electronic, Techno sounds from Detroit. Theo Parrish is a master at combining the most ugliest of sounds to something so beautiful.

I feel a Deep House, Down-Tempo mix is over due. Coming soon.

Enjoy this Theo Parrish track, Nov, 2010.

THE EPSILONS

The Epsilons formed as teenagers in Philadelphia, PA, an early member was a guy name Roame, who has carved a successful career playing congas and singing with Maze. The group got a huge break via a two-year tour with Otis Redding; Arthur Conley was also a member of the troupe, his smash "Sweet Soul Music," featured the Epsilons, uncredited, on backing vocals. The quintet now consisted of John Whitehead(Roame's cousin), Gene McFadden, Allen Beatty, Lloyd Parks, and James Knight. Parks cut his teeth with the Emanons, whose recordings included "One Heart," on Phila of Soul Records in 1968.

With Reddings' help, their first single appeared on Stax Records via a master purchase deal. Listening to The Echo, released December 1968, you'd never think the group was from Philadelphia, the harmony was beautiful, full and vibrant like the Intruders, but the rough, effective "Big O" inspired lead was pure southern soul. Stax did little to promote the record which died unceremoniously. Otis Redding's tragic end devastated the Epsilons' career and they migrated back to Philadelphia where Parks joined the Broadway Express, who recorded a few singles on local Philly labels.

Minus Parks, McFadden & Whitehead renamed the Epsilons, Talk of the Town, and inked a deal with North Bay Records who issued two non selling singles: "Little Bit Of Your Lovin'," in 1971 and "Don't Be So Mean," in 1972. Kenny Gamble wanted McFadden & Whitehead for their songwriting skills and the records were pacifiers til the time they could split them from the group. Their next single "Super Groover (All Night Mover)," appeared on Gamble Records in 1973; however, McFadden & Whitehead were salivating about "Backstabbers," the hit they wrote for the O'Jays, and busied themselves with other writing and producing projects.

Two more singles, and an album found homes on TSOP Records (The Sound of Philadelphia): a two-part groove called "Bumpin' Boogie," in 1974, and "I Apologize," in 1975, neither it nor the singles did anything and lack of income force them to disband. McFadden and Whitehead, however, kept writing hit after hit for nearly everybody at Philadelphia International Records. Former Epsilon, Lloyd Parkes left Broadway Express to become one of Harold Melvin's Bluenotes; that's Parkes howling falsetto on "I Miss You," one of the few times a Blue Note, other than Harold Melvin, Teddy Pendergrass, or Sharon Paige appeared on a Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes' recording; the backing vocals were normally done by Melvin, Pendergrass, Paige, and Kenny Gamble. McFadden & Whitehead wanted to record again but Gamble always nixed the idea deeming them too valuable as songwriters. When Gamble finally relented, they scored a #1 R&B hit with "Ain't No Stopping Us Now," the summer of 1979. McFadden and Whitehead continue to write and produce but rarely together anymore.

VERNON BURCH

Vernon Burch was considered a child prodigy of sorts when he made his performance debut with the Delfonics as a teenager.

Later he moved on to join the reconstituted Bar Kays on their early 70s albums, then bolted for a solo career after their contract with Stax ran out. He did not receive the fame his former band mates would later experience, but the guitarist recorded for United Artists, Columbia and Chocolate City during a six-year period the produced the minor hits "Frame of Mind" and "Give It To Me." Today his reputation is loftier than the chart position of his work, proving again that sales are
no indicator of quality.

BAXTER :: ELECTRO POP

Already with a several years history in Finland´s music scene playing keyboards in various bands, around 2004 multi-instrumentalist Willy Baxter started to create his own musical vision. The main goal was to compose strong songs with beautiful popmelodies, vocals and spacey synth-based production without forgetting the dancey side of the background.

In 2007 Willy Baxter´s debut release “Aiming High” single was released digitally in all main netstores. 2009 was a busy year for Willy Baxter. He released his first proper EP “Proof” under shorted name Baxter consisting 4 original tracks with high profile remixes from artists like Lifelike and Spirit Catcher.
The same year Baxter was signed for british Mullet Records and a full-length album “In Between” was released in the end of 2009 consisting songs from 5 year period. Baxter was also busy doing remixes for other artists including Tesla Boy.

DR. DRE :: BURNING MAN :: HE KNEW!

This is why I love the internet. So much useless information, so much time wasted, but I'm highly entertained. I stumbled on this letter apparently from Dr. Dre writing a friend (remember sending letters) and mentioning his pre plans for shooting "California Love" feat Tuapac & Roger Troutman (R.I.P). Dre met some Burners (Burning Man affiliates) and saw nothing but dollar signs. If you watch the video, the location is in the desert with a futuristic Mad Max theme.

Maybe this is true. If not it sure is hilarious.
