A HISTORIC EVENT IN THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES

MY DAD TURNED ME ON TO THIS EVENT THAT HE'LL BE ATTENDING THIS SATURDAY. FOR MANY OLD SCHOOL CHICANO'S IN SO.CAL WHO ARE/WERE INTO CARS THIS WAS A LIFESTYLE. CRUISING THE STREETS OF WHITTIER LOOKING GOOD AND FLOSSY. BELOW IS A SCENE FROM "BOULAVARD NIGHTS" A CLASSIC FILM ON LOWRIDER AND LATINO CULTURE. IF YOU FORWARD THE VIDEO TO 5:10 SECONDS YOU WILL VIEW A PIECE OF HISTORY AND THE MEMORIES.

WHY ARE YOU IN PRISON??????

I LOVE ANIMATION

GOTTA LOVE IT!!!

A SIGN OF THE TIMES

THIS IS FUCKED UP...

It seems like the homeless of NYC will no longer be able to put on for their city. The Bloomberg administration is giving any homeless family who wants, a free one-way ticket to anywhere they wish to go. The project was started to hopefully deplete the costly expense of homeless shelters in the city, which cost about $36,000 a year per family. Since 2007, more than 550 families have left the city and all it takes is for a relative to agree to take them in.

America is the only place we know where we can dump our problems on someone else and actually get praise and recognition for it!

VANDAL SQUAD BOOK

I just got back from NY & copped this book for a good read on the flight home.

Here's a little bit about it:

Stories have been going around about a former NYPD vandal squad cop set to release a book on some of New York’s most prolific graffiti writers. This rumor was confirmed when Amazon added the forthcoming book to its website. The book, Vandal Squad by Joseph “Joe Blow” Rivera is expected to be released by Miss Rosen Editions, the “urban culture and lifestyle” imprint of Powerhouse Books, in December 2008.

Recently, Graffnews.com, which has sourced the most information on the book, posted a list of writers who are expected to be named, which include SI, LES, FEES, FACET, PEN, SHINE, DECK, CAP, MENOS, JA, FOE, and SKUF. They also posted an excerpt from Rivera about tracking down MENOS.

"After several months we caught a break at a graffiti exhibition in lower Manhattan. I was on the roof of a three-story brownstone with binoculars. It was abeautiful night. Half of them were gathered outside, just hanging out, flipping through their photos, the usual. Then one of the guys pulled out a can of spray paint and tagged the sidewalk. When several spectators moved out of the way I could read the tag: MENOS."

This Vandal Squad dude is a scumbag, probably in the same catagory as a parking cop but whatever . . . The book is a good read for people that didn't grow up in NY and have no idea about how stuff went down

BUFF MONSTER BOOK

The book has paintings, toys, street posters, in progress photos, and everything in between. And he layed out the whole thing himself. There are a few photos on buffmonster.com.

According to vinylpulse.com:
"We had the chance to check out a printer's proof of Buff's first book and as we flipped through kept thinking wow... everything is in here. If you're a die-hard Buff Monster fan or simply curious about his work, this is a must. Very well done and packed with great pics... Life is Sweet at $24.95 for 144 8" x 10" loaded pages is worth a long look."

Available tomorrow (Thursday) at 10am PST on buffmonster.com. Each one is signed; $24.95 plus shipping.

FOLLOW THE HIPPEST COFFEE SHOP IN THE CITY "VEGA"

Come check out what the people are talking about in San Francisco. Vega serves up blue bottle coffee, home made sand-whiches, pastries and other delicious eatables. Also the whole twitter buzz is huge in the city. I also highly recomend you follow VEGA on twitter. You will find the menu and all sort of good stuff.

On August 7th, 8th & 9th, 2009 is the return of San Francisco Classic. The largest vintage scooter rally in the bay area. In past years, there has been well over 300 scoots in attendance and we look forward to a great turn out once more.
Two events that John and I will be directly involved with is Concrete Jungle versus SF Classic on Saturday night 8/8/09 at the Knockout and the Sunday ride that starts from Vega at 11am. Our cafe will be open and serving some sweet Blue Bottle Coffee drinks so if you can't make it Monday through Friday here's your chance.
(see links attached)

This year's rides are for vintage scooters only, so dust off your Lambretta, Vespa or other classic and head to the City. Check out sanfranciscoclassic.com to get the whole scoop.

P. ROD X ICE CUBE

Paul Rodriguez just got even hotter

HAPPY BIRTHDAY VERDINE WHITE!

Clap it up for the legendary bassist from Earth Wind & Fire! His style alone deserves some props. He was classically trained with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He says, “The instrument was standing alone in the corner of the orchestra class…tall, mysterious and majestic, so different from all the others, it called me and the love affair began.” Sexy!

I definitely will be packing some EW&F in the record bag tonite for BEHIND THE GROOVE!!

July 09' Mini-Tour

What up Hear The Sounds Bloggers . . . So it's 4:30 am West Coast Time and 7:30 am East Coast Time. I'm here in Queens, New York, New York can't sleep to save my life. So here's some pictures from Saturday 7/18/09 from the first leg of my week long coast to coast mini-tour. First stop was the club Slide in San Francisco (Shout out to DJ David Carvalho of Play Agency). Slide is a really dope club with a slide to get down (or u can use the stairs). I hear it used to be a speakeasy back in the day. So enough with the talk here's some pics from the trip so far . . .

I stepped off the flight & ran into these guys . . . DJ Steve1der & Waldo of Los Angeles

Waldo wanted to get Clam Chowder in a bread bowl so we made our way to the wharf

Waldo went with everything BUT the chowder

I showed up to the club Slide hella early so I chopped it up with the door guy & vip host & operations manager. Sorry but those 10 drink tickets made me forget your names. Very friendly staff!

preparing to blow the roof off . . .

SLIDE was dope! One of the funnest crowds i've played for in a while. Afterwards the SF Hear The Sounds Princess DJ Mama Bear & I went to catch up with the fella's . . .

yeah

we saw like 60 dudes walk in & the fellas walk in so we cut out to drink Tequila & Sunkist (it's not that bad)

by about 5am I had to make my way to the airport . . . On the way we saw this security guard sleeping.

so we woke him up!

Breakfast time !!! Shouts to sparkys for the bomb sausage (pause)

I made it on-time to the airport, tried to get a blood mary but it was tooo early. Oh well Lights out. NYC here I come.

It's summer so check this summer anthem:
