Funkineven 1956 is Stevie J's sonic alter ego. An amalgamation of cosmic sounds, kinetic beat making and vintage styles. He releases his stunning studies in soul via the well respected 'Eglo Records'. Funkineven is know for the Mid-tempo, Future Funk track called " KLEER ", heavy rotation from respected DJ's of Gilles Peterson to Benji B on the BBC.

This programme was filmed in VHS and was recently discovered in a sealed time chamber. Enjoy the past and celebrate the future.

SOHO RECORD STORES PART 2

Part two of our guide features conversations with three very distinct vinyl vendors - the Indie music haven known as Sister Ray, Sounds Of The Universe - who are globally revered for their love of Jazz, Reggae and associated genres, and Wyld Pytch, London's last standing purveyor of Hip Hop & R&B.

FUNKINEVEN

In the last couple years FUNKINEVEN has been making some loud noise across the pond. I think Im getting old! I cant keep up with all these new sub genres the kids are making up these days, but what ever. I call it good music.

We salute you mate... Great tunes, keep them coming. Feeling this broken house number.

FLOOR VIOLENCE

In late 2008 Shottsman aka IG Culture brought together some legends of the UK jazz dance and boogie scene of the 1980s. This is what happened. Featuring rarely-seen archive footage from London's legendary Electric Ballroom. Another Holy Roller production!

SHUR-I-KAN GOE'S BACK TO HIP HOP JAZZY ROOTS

Shur-I-Kan
third full-length “The Humble Bees Project” is a hip-hop/beats side project. Apparently he’s produced an album for UK rapper Hkb Finn (who MCs on a few of the songs alongside Ty) last year, but it’s still a pleasant surprise to hear him change styles with success. It is very much in tune with classic jazzy hip-hop a la Guru or last weeks Jazz Liberatorz. So if you like your beats jazzy, go for it. It’s a solid album with a few good headnodders, it’s not trying to redefine hip-hop like the nuschool LA people, but it’s standing against further degeneration by keeping the tradition alive

GAPPY RANKS "Put The Stereo On"

Gappy Ranks out of the UK coming with the big tunes!
Don't sleep on this new roots sound.
I remember barely back in the days asking my parents to turn on the stereo . . . It was classic soul and oldies for me but for Gappy it was Studio One tunes on 45. Paying tribute to the foundation . . .
