BUG

THANKS TO GAVIN OVER AT "I JUST LIKE MUSIC RECORDS" FOR HOOKING THIS UP

24 year-old Londoner, BUG, is a keyboard player, songwriter and producer. Under the moniker, BUG, he creates an experimental, instrumentally grounded style of music with a compositional approach. The BUG sound encompasses the finer elements of hip-hop and neo-soul, yet the real beauty is in the delivery. Think the smooth richness of the Dam-Funk vibe, the solid construction of a Dilla beat, the electronic wizardry of Flying Lotus and the soulful melodies of Lonnie Liston Smith's jazz.

SHUR-I-KAN GOE'S BACK TO HIP HOP JAZZY ROOTS

Shur-I-Kan
third full-length “The Humble Bees Project” is a hip-hop/beats side project. Apparently he’s produced an album for UK rapper Hkb Finn (who MCs on a few of the songs alongside Ty) last year, but it’s still a pleasant surprise to hear him change styles with success. It is very much in tune with classic jazzy hip-hop a la Guru or last weeks Jazz Liberatorz. So if you like your beats jazzy, go for it. It’s a solid album with a few good headnodders, it’s not trying to redefine hip-hop like the nuschool LA people, but it’s standing against further degeneration by keeping the tradition alive
