This Chicago kid now resides LA. His mixtape completely flips the script. Madd diverse on the flow. You can catch him @ Soul Sessions, Boom Box, Rhythm Section and other local LA Events.
This is what I listen to in order to get my Mondays started right! There has been an influx of songs with accompanying dance moves (Thanks a lot soldier boy) Stanky Leg? Do the Ricky Bobby? Do the Bird walk??!!! That shit is seizure inducing. Just do Da Dip.
14KT just laced me with his whole album. This definitely brings back the feeling of hip hop for me, it is pretty sick. He has a track which he sampled one of my favorite artist in the early 90s, See if you can guess which one it is. It threw me off guard for a minute. He's a Detroit kid and will be making his way out here next month. He will be in LA for a min, then he has a show with Buff1 in San Francisco. Please check him out! You will thank me later.
The Golden Hour is defined as: the first sixty minutes, after the occurrence of major multisystem trauma. This album serves as an introduction to the unorthodox genius of 14KT, and is the first of several solo full length albums already completed.
EVERY TIME I HEAR MIAMI BASS IT REMINDS ME OF LIVING IN LA BACK IN THE 80'S... EVERY CAR LOWRIDER IN TOWN WAS BUMPING BASS CD'S, AND THAT SHIT WAS BUMPING. THIS IS WHY WE NOW HAVE NOISE RESTRICTIONS ON VEHICLES... FROM THE TOYOTA & NISSAN PICK UP TRUCKS TO THE SENTRA AND SIDEKICK JEEPS. BACK THEN IT WAS ALL ABOUT HOW HARD YOUR SYSTEM THUMPED... IF YOU WERE A NERD LIKE ME U PROBABLY SPENT HOURS AT SCHOOL DRAWING LOW RIDER PICK UP TRUCKS WITH THE SPINNING BED. I WANTED TO PAY A TRIBUTE TO THIS GREAT TIME. IF YOU WERE THERE YOU'LL LOVE THIS CLASSIC JOINT WINK-D FEATURING CANDY FRESH - GET BUSY - 1989
Balkan music has established itself to a global trend, principally since the success of films by Emir Kusturica ('Underground’ and ‘Black Cat, White Cat'). At the same time, around the turn of the millennium, electronic music was in a creative low. The DJ Stefan Hantel from Frankfurt was experimenting with downbeat and lounge elements, releasing under the name ‘Shantel’ several lounge productions, combining brass music, Klezmer elements with grooves from the club music genre, creating ‘Balkan Beats’. On this double compilation ‘Balkan Club Night’ there are Balkan Brass classics, as well as modern Balkan Beats production. On the ‘Primetime’ side are mainly uptempo dancefloor tracks. On the ‘Afterhours’ - side are the more traditional, brass classics. DELADAP - GOLDREGGEN (NOHA MIX)

I TOOK THIS PICTURE PRIME TIME ON THE DANCE FLOOR DURING LAST WEEKS SWEATER FUNK PARTY. I'S VERY RARE TO GO OUT AND HAVE A DJ THROW DOWN SOME SLOW JAMS PRIME TIME AND HAVE EVERYONE IN THE CROWED GOING NUTS. THERE WAS SO MUCH LOVE IN THE AIR I HAD TO POST THIS CLASSIC TRACK FROM DENNIS EDWARDS. THE FUNNY THING ABOUT THIS VIDEO IS HIS FACIAL EXPRESSIONS (coked out maybe????). WATCH AND LAUGH... ITS PRETTY CHEESE, BUT A CLASSIC SLOW JAM YOU NEED IN THE CRATE.
69 years ago today Smokey Robinson was born in Detroit (what!). Im posting a link to one of my favorite and most sweetest songs by him. What more can I say? This man is timeless. Shit, even George Harrison wrote an Ode for him and "Genius of Love" by Tom Tom Club gives him a shoutout.
For the second time in 9 months, Suge Knight got his face punched in -- and the alleged ass-beater claims to be Akon's business manager.
It all went down in a private party at the W Hotel in Scottsdale, AZ -- where Suge was attending a private party for NBA All-Star weekend. Cops say they were called to the scene by hotel security who warned about a brewing fight between two groups in the VIP area.
According to the Scottsdale PD website, when cops arrived, they saw a man punch the victim -- aka Suge -- two times in the head." Officers had to break out the tasers to "quell the fight."
The suspect, Robert Carnes Jr., was charged with one count of felony aggravated assault -- they ruled it a felony "due to the severity of the victim's injuries." Another man was also arrested and charged with one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
According to the Scottsdale PD, "Carnes reported to officers that he is employed as the business manager for singer 'Akon.'"
Suge was transported to a local hospital and treated for facial injuries

Esthero. This girl is Heaven Sent. She has definitely been one of my favorites from the jump. She has worked with Mos Def, Goodie Mob, Saul Williams, DJ Krush, I can go on and on. She had me from her album Breath from Another. She has a captivating and unmistakable voice that can take listeners on an incredibly immersive ride of emotion.
Esthero as Kanye's Jane. Kanye West’s “808s & Heartbreak” features three tracks co-written by Esthero, including the single “Love Lockdown.” She also provides backing vocals on “Street Lights.”
To all my people in LA, and to those who are visiting, she will be @Bardottonite. Its one of those swanky clubs with a doorman who decides your fate so if you want to get in dress nicely.
Hope all you readers are enjoying this Hallmark holiday. I'd much rather have a lowrider bike than a diamond tennis bracelet from a valentine...but thats just me! I've been listening to a lot of Chocolate City Radio and nu-R&B mixtapes so instead of posting a typical love song I want to share a smooth track from Eric Lau's latest album "New Territories" 2008. The hook on this song has been stuck in my head for days. Check out songstress Tawiah from London who is featured on the track.
...besides getting drunk on nail polish remover and checking out the eharmony.com free trial. First download my latest Live club mix Kool Karlo Live @ HIFI
Second come to our Valentines Day 80's butt rock Hair Metal Party @ Mars Bar with Kool Karlo, Clayton, and Errol. 9pm-2am 5 clams at the door and I'm not talking sea food or pussy.

A pioneer, respected DJ, an accomplished producer/remixer, label / A&R manager and radio presenter, Matt 'Jam' Lamont has been an intrinsic part of the UK garage scene from its very inception.
It was at South London's The Arches, where the burgeoning underground UK garage sound, and indeed Matt's career really took shape with his residency at the legendary Sunday venue.
It was at this seminal Sunday club that he hooked up with fellow DJ Karl 'Tuff Enuff' Brown, and together in 1993 they formed the now legendary production/remixing team, Tuff Jam. The duo became the leading figureheads of UK garage during the mid to late 90's, turning out a slew of classic anthems from 'Tumblin' Down' and entered the charts withTJR's 'Just Gets Better' (Multiply) & Tuff Jam ft, Jaquee Bennett Need Good Love (XL) to top remixes for Kristine Blond, Boyz II Men, Usher, Coolio, En Vogue, Rosie Gaines, Brand New Heavies, Mark Morrison and more. Liverpool Street Station was overrun by dancers who had congregated on the concourse for a silent disco, organised via the social networking website. The crowd, who were all listening to music through headphones, broke into dance at 7pm on Friday night in a scene which aped the advert which was filmed at the station last month. The flash mob caused police to close the station for around 90 minutes due to fears of overcrowding. Participants, some of whom had travelled hundreds of miles to take part, said the station was so packed that there was no room to dance. Some revellers climbed on top of a ticket office to perform their routines, while others climbed notice boards and other station furniture… Word of the the event, called Liverpool Street Station Silent Dance, was circulated on the internet through Facebook.
Mos Def. Need I say more? Jean Grae opened up for him @ House of Blues on Sunset last nite. Is he making a come back? I think so. His latest album drops in May. Check it.
If I was to have sex with an alien, this is what I'd have playing in the background. Very spacey/breathy vocals and a basic drum loop, with a "slow your roll" synthesizer. This song sounds classic and cosmic.
Nite Jewel AKA Ramona Gonzalez is based out of Los Angeles and I found her 12" on the Italians Do It Better label. After hearing this song I ran off to Rasputin's and got my paws on the record. It's currently in rotation at my Dalva party on 2nd Thursdays.

YOU CAN TELL THAT THE GAME AIN'T SAME ANYMORE. I FEEL TRUE HIP HOP IS STRUGGLING PRIMARILY DUE TO THE LOSE OF JAY YANCY, BUT HES LEFT HIS FOOT PRINT ON WHAT REAL HIP HOP SHOULD SOUNDS LIKE. I CAN GO ON AND ON AND YOU CAN PROBABLY READ THE SAME THINGS I WANT TO SAY ON ANY OTHER BLOG. SO I LEAVE YOU WITH THIS BEAT THAT HE DID FOR WAJEEDS WAR LP BEAT TAPE FROM EARLY 2008
Happy Birthday Dilla! That should it explain it all. A few friends from Soul Scienz organize a monthly event called Boom Box . Lastnite's event was with J.rocc, House Shoes, and Illa J. With all the rain everyone was still in the house @ the Grand Star Jazz Club by 10pm with a line out to the parking lot.
I have never seen this place crackin that early. As I walked in, Rob.C was nice on the jazz selection. Along side with Ben Diggin, and One Man Jazz.
Plann.B , and Boom Box Residents Rob.C and Ben Diggin in the house. As well as the rest of LA and out of towners in for the Dilla gathering.
I had to leave for my next joint but got the drop from the homie @ Soundwaves KPFK Abraham Beltran. J.rocc turned it out again, as always. He played original hits, samples, and beats that hit home. House Shoes played all exclusive unreleased songs. Amazing. Its always refreshing to hear good music, especially Hip-Hop, considering where its @ now.
Here is a lil clip from last night. Enjoy!
On the other side of town... The Noise Academy throws a monthly event called Senses @ The Terrace in Pasadena. Last nights guest selectors and selectress' were Giant Squid from SF, DJ Evoke, and myself. I walked in here and it took me a min to get to the DJ booth. This party was hype. High energy with everyone on the dance floor, and bartenders getting their hustle on with the over flow of intoxicated peeps. Can you handle it?
I need to pay homage to the dancers from the early 90's. They laid it down for all these new crews. This reminds me of the good ol' house party days. Bring this energy back! -Ren
OH GOSH....IT LOOKS LIKE THE DIGITAL AGE HAS MADE ALMOST EVERY DJ WANNA SHOW OFF THEIR LAPTOP. BIG WHOOPIE FUCKIN DOOO!!!! I WAS TELLING BINKY WE SHOULD JUST DO A WEBSITE WITH ALL THESE DUMBASS DJ'S HOLDING THEIR LAPTOPS. WE HAVE BEEN GETTING ALOT OF PICS SENT TO US NOW. SEEMS LIKE OVER HALF OF THEM ARE HOLDING A LAPTOP. ATTENTION SO CALLED DJ'S - "A LAPTOP DOESN'T MAKE YOU A DJ". I'M GONNA HAVE BINKY TAKE A PIC OF ME HOLDING MY LAPTOP, EVEN THOUGH IT HAS HELLO KITTY STICKERS ON IT. BESIDES THE LAPTOP, I WAS WONDERING HOW LONG IT TOOK YOUR BOYFRIEND TO GET YOUR FACIAL HAIR SO PRETTY AND WELL GROOMED. DON'T THINK I DIDN'T NOTICE THE HOOP ON YOU RIGHT EAR...
Thanks for the inspiration Beatnick...behind his Sobe Waters is some St. Ides love. Reminded me of that Nate Dogg and Snoop promo for St. Ides, with that the smooth ass westcoast synth and deep bass. Check it out below
They didn't stop at the Westocast. Check out this Wu video below. Damn I miss that 90's sound.
Diddy doesn’t like the game right now. Not Game the rapper — the rap game. He’s going to experiment heavily on his new LP and thinks his peers should get onboard with his thinking.
“Right now, I’m working on my record, and it’ll be out in the end of summer,” he told us recently in NYC. “It’s feeling good. It’s different. I’m creating a new sound. It doesn’t sound like anybody else’s stuff out there. With that comes a risk. I’m excited about the risk. I do have a beef a little bit with the game right now. I think hip-hop has lost its risk-taking quality. Everybody goes to the comfort zone. It doesn’t have that risk anymore. You’re not like, ‘What is that?’ when you hear that record anymore.”
Mr. Combs said the record-spinners are as much to blame as the people making the music.
“People have figured out the formula when they make records for radio, and DJs ain’t DJs no more,” he declared. “DJs don’t break records no more. DJs don’t play album cuts. DJs play what is going to move the crowd. DJs, they don’t expose you to the newness. That was the DJs’ thing. Hip-hop is in a recession also. It’s not dead, it’s definitely way better than where it was at, as far as with ‘Ye, T.I. and with Jeezy. It’s so much great stuff out there, the responsibility has to come with the DJs. I’m about to call the DJs out. ‘Cause they are the future, and they gotta step it up. I can’t keep turning on the radio no matter where I’m at and can’t tell who’s who.
“DJs used to have a style,” Puff continued. “The hottest DJ in the game right now is Q-Tip. That right there is a DJ playing, taking you on a mind-travelling experience. Playing something and you’re like, ‘What’s that?’ ” …
This event was ridiculous. It was an indoor/outdoor event held in Chinatown, Los Angeles last Saturday. We had it all, 2 outdoor stages (Hip-Hop & Acoustic), a dance floor @ the Grand Star Jazz Club, and of course the main dance floor @ Mountain Bar. We had a few guests in town from San Diego to drop a lil heat on the tables. Jae, Sufficient Sounds, & Oosh!t held it down on the tables while Albert (1020) & Eric were holdin down the bar! lol. By 11pm everyone was back 2 back and double fisted with a lil 90s flava in ya ear!
