Balkan music has established itself to a global trend, principally since the success of films by Emir Kusturica ('Underground’ and ‘Black Cat, White Cat'). At the same time, around the turn of the millennium, electronic music was in a creative low. The DJ Stefan Hantel from Frankfurt was experimenting with downbeat and lounge elements, releasing under the name ‘Shantel’ several lounge productions, combining brass music, Klezmer elements with grooves from the club music genre, creating ‘Balkan Beats’. On this double compilation ‘Balkan Club Night’ there are Balkan Brass classics, as well as modern Balkan Beats production. On the ‘Primetime’ side are mainly uptempo dancefloor tracks. On the ‘Afterhours’ - side are the more traditional, brass classics.
