HAIGHT & FILLMORE ON FIRE

Thanks to local hero's "Upper Play Ground" for the this video clip, minutes after the fire started
SAN FRANCISCO -- A four-alarm fire burned through apartments on top of a Walgreens store in San Francisco's Lower Haight neighborhood on Tuesday, sending residents fleeing into the street as smoke and flames burst out of windows.
The fire did "heavy damage" to the three-story building at Haight and Fillmore streets, said Fire Department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge. Most of the damage was contained to the top floor, although the second floor sustained water damage.
Talmadge said everyone was evacuated safely from the drugstore and upper floors, where there are 25 apartments. One firefighter had a minor cut to a finger and another person sought assistance from an ambulance, but both people were treated on scene, Talmadge said. Firefighters also rescued two dogs and four cats.
The fire, reported at 4 p.m., drew 125 firefighters. They had to poke holes through the roof to reach attic spaces where the fire burned out of control, Talmadge said. By 5:30 p.m., the blaze had been contained and firefighters were putting out hot spots.
Carl Casey, who lives across the street from the building, was eating in a restaurant next door to the fire when he saw smoke and flames. At one point he heard glass shattering and saw top-floor windows falling to the street.
"It was a big fire," he said. "It's not every day you see something like this."
Mohamed Bouabibsa, owner of a nearby pizza shop, said he had seen a person run out of the building and collapse while the fire was raging. "The wind was pushing" the fire up and away from the building, he said.
The blaze closed the area to traffic for at least two hours, and three Muni lines - the 6, 22 and 77 - had to be rerouted.
The fire is believed to have broken out on the top floor. Several witnesses reported hearing several small explosions or "popping" sounds just before the fire started, Talmadge said. The cause is under investigation.

UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Following on from the likes of “Backstreet Brit Funk”, “Destination Boogie” and the ever-popular Soul of Disco series Z Records continue to release hi quality compilations filled with lesser known disco, funk and boogie.
Now ZR launches a new compilation series named Under The Influence. The story behind UTI is this, being a seasoned record collector Z label boss Dave Lee (Joey Negro) has made the acquaintance of many of the worlds other vinyl junkies. People that may be unknown to the general public but are hardcore enthusiasts who have built some of the best collections of soul, funk and disco on the planet. The idea of UTI isn't about big name djs but is to give a musical platform to those who have the knowledge to put together a track listing of killer tunes. Volume 1 has been compiled by DJ Red Greg aka Darren Griffiths, a familiar face across the world at record fairs and second hand vinyl stores...as well as a dj putting on his own Ebonite nights in Dalston (and playing in parties in the UK as well as Paris and NYC) .
Under The Influence Vol.1 compiled by DJ Red Greg - Sampler by Joey Negro
For the record, we at Z aren't interested in re-issuing collectors obscurities, average records that are best left as rare vinyl only pieces, we only want re-vitalise great music that has stood the test of time. When Darren sent us in the CDs of his proposed track listing we were blown away by the high standard of his selection. Unlike many re-issue comps we doubt there will be anyone who picks up this CD and looks through the track list and has the all the songs contained. This selection is the result of years of digging, buying records on a hunch, acquiring a few turkeys to find the gems. Check his sleeve notes out for some detailed analysis and history.
As always with Z Records, we've spent time and money to make the masters sound as good as possible so if you're a fan of compilations from BBE or Dimitri From Paris and our own Soul of Disco CD’s then this new series will not disappoint.

VINDAHL :: SERENDIPITY :: TOKYO DAWN

Highly anticipated album from Vindahl.... I've been waiting for this release for some time. My mix "Head Over Heels" is based of his track "Head Over Heels" feat Coco of Quadrion.
‘Serendipity’ is a term used in science to describe an unintentional gain of knowledge, finding something you weren’t expecting to find. This strong pop album by Copenhagen-based producer Ronni Vindahl might offer exactly that, if not even more.
As co-founder of the vanguard soul collective Boom Clap Bachelors, Vindahl has also been involved with numerous offspring projects such as Ivory & Gold, Robi, Kris Mars and Non+. This first album project to be released under his real name has been his secret heart project for more than four years now, its release date being postponed numerous times for further rounds of perfectioning. Of course ‘Serendipity’ is first and foremost a bold electronic indie pop album, but it goes further, integrating insights from his work in philosophy and art galleries into the album concept. Musical influences as diverse as Talking Heads, Trevor Horn and Prince shimmer through, complemented by lyrics often based on themes of duality as the album cover indicates. Guest artists featured on ‘Serenpidity’ include swedish pop star Jenny Wilson, Coco from Quadron and a bonus remix by the Boom Clap Bachelors. An album which is lot more than just an unintentional gain of knowledge, but a serious piece of pop art!

SWEATER FUNK :: LABOR DAY CELEBRATION 2011
My Camera has seen many battles and this puppy is almost ready to retire. Sorry for the blurry pics, but it gets really hot, and steamy down in the basement which alters the quality... Oh well, if you weren't there this is what you get to see.
Labor Day 2011 we celebrated the only way we know how! Quality Music, and Family atmosphere in the heart of China Town. The night was very special as we celebrated Guillermo (SF) & Raul Sanchez Aka -Roll (LifeStyle) Birthdays in the basement. Li Po was full of drunken debauchery! Chinese Whiskey will be the death of the crew!!!
We were also blessed to have LA Family & friend "Eddie Funkster" in the house who drove up for the special occasion. Eddie came and dropped 45 bombs all night.... What a great night.
I Love this CREW
