REALITY JONEZ :: BLOWING UP IN 2013

Reality Jonez is going to blow up this year! Old Sound, New Voice. Soul music is alive and well just listen...

Reality Jonez was born and raised in Pasadena, California, just fifteen minutes outside of LA. Surrounded by music at a young age, he vividly recalls, as a child, witnessing his step dad playing guitar in different bands during the 1980’s. Music would prove to be an indispensable form of release for Jonez, a troubled youth who looked to singing and songwriting in hopes of turning his life around. He counts Smokey Robinson, Michael Jackson, and Curtis Mayfield among his influences, but is perhaps most inspired by Marvin Gaye, whom Jonez has garnered many comparisons to, with his rich falsetto and gritty, driven natural tone.

The ultra-slick, over-polished sound of today’s R&B music is a far cry from the days when vocalists and musicians sat down in the studio and recorded a song in one take, using nothing but their own abilities and talents. Of course, recording technology has come too far for that to be an efficient way to make music, but Jonez still seeks to keep a piece of that warm 60’s and 70’s soul sound alive. His records often ignore the sonic sensibilities of the post-hip hop age of digital recording, instead lending themselves to the era of early hi-fi, just coming out of the lo-fi mono sound of the early 1960’s. A Reality Jonez song will likely be backed by drums that sound dusty, yet roomy, with pianos adding nothing more than distant twinkles underneath sharp horn stabs. Jonez’ first single, a cover of Marvin’s “Stubborn Kind Of Fellow”, is a fitting debut, as it was Gaye’s first hit record.

Jonez opted to bring his “New Oldies” sound to life in an attempt to distinguish himself from the average contemporary R&B singer. Reality Jonez does not depend on auto-tune to polish his vocals, or upon “swag” to carry his artist image. Instead, you get nothing more than a sincere voice, crooning out words that you can relate to no matter what era you come from.

  1. Howdy! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this website?
I'm getting tired of Wordpress because I've had issues with hackers and I'm looking at options for another platform. I would be fantastic if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
