The After Christmas Special (San Diego) * Rewind
This past Saturday at Bar Dynamite was a magical one (More pics to come, I'll just add them to this post.) By 11pm we were at capacity with only one week of the event being promoted. Bency set it off with some downtempo, midtempo, jazzy hip-hop & more. Next up was Roza & Raichous (rrs feed) rockin' 2 tables & the Serato Itch with a set of hip-hop, downtempo, jazzy breaks, 80's classics & turntablism. The crowd was warm then Hawaii's son Sovern-T stepped up with some classy party tunes hip-hop, reggae & a dash of dancehall. Closing out the night was Shred One (rrs feed | sweater funk) who dropped bmore soul, boogie, & even some Total Devastation "many clouds" to a packed dancefloor. To top off & end the night correctly, I even ran into the oldschool homie Joe aka Mosco a Hear The Sounds extended family member. Til' next time . . .

PLAYIN' KINDA RUFF-THE TROUTMAN LEGACY

B.cause does it again...he is a good friend of HTS crew, he has played with us at Koko Cocktails when we used to do Behind The Groove, and has rocked it in the basement for Sweaterfunk. I play his Cierra/Kashif remix wayyyy too much...his California upbringing is apparent through his style and selection...I first met B.Cause when I was a young cub protege of Toph1, and he has always been gracious and humble. This is his latest mix, a medly of Roger Troutman (with Zapp) orginals and songs that sample his work. RIP ROGER!

"Here's a quick walking tour of Jerry's Records in Pittsburgh, PA. This video was shot in April 2009 while digging for gems with Chairman Mao (NYC). Shout out to Jerry and J. Malls for letting us in to get dusty. If you haven't been and you're looking for some great vinyl, Jerry's is THE goldmine." - DJ Zimmie

SPECIAL GUEST:
SOVERN-T
DJ Sovern-T has been a firm fixture in the Hawaii music scene for the past decade. From his early days as a bass player in several bands, to his groundbreaking Treehaus parties, and now as one of Honolulu's most in-demand club/party djays, Sovern-T continues to inflame in people an uncontrollable urge to just dance! He posseses a flair for seamlessly blending hiphop, reggae, drum-n-bass & dancehall music into a signature sound that is so unique it deserves to be declared 'Sovern'. A typical Sovern-T set consists of a "natural mix of bangin' beats to compliment the natural mix of people on the dancefloor"

RRS FEED
ROZA | RAICHOUS | SHRED ONE
::RRS FEED::
DJs Raichous (LA), Roza (LA), and Shred One (SF) first connected headlining a collaborative DJ event in Los Angeles, CA in 2009. They instantly vibed and complemented each other’s style on the decks, igniting the spark for a future collaboration. Although residing in different cities, they set out to work together through a tireless series of practice sessions consisting of 3 mixers, 4 turntables, Raichous' swift and funky cuts, Roza’s smooth versatility, and Shred One’s impeccable selection.

WELCOME BACK TO THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH

LOS ANGELES (AP) – “Captain EO” is moonwalking back to Disneyland.
The theme park announced plans Friday to bring back the 3-D sci-fi film starring Michael Jackson next February, over 23 years after the attraction debuted in Anaheim, Calif. The 17-minute film starred the late King of Pop as a singing-and-dancing intergalactic commander. It was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and executive produced by George Lucas.
In the film, Jackson leads a goofy alien and robot crew as they battle a wicked queen played by Anjelica Huston. “Captain EO” originally opened in Disneyland’s Tommorrowland in 1986 and ran for more than a decade. Identical versions later opened at other Disney theme parks. They were all closed by 1998.

Outkast "movin' cool"
one of my fave Outkast joints is "Movin Cool (afterparty" not really a hip-hop song, more of a jazz / swing track. No need to seek out the soundtrack, I ripped the vinyl in the other day . . . Andre, Big Boi ! We need more music like this. Oh yeah Cee-Lo's wife is on the hook NOT Erykah Badu

2 TONE

The Specials (originally known as The Coventry Automatics, then later named The Special AKA) were the first band of the 2-Tone era in the late 70's and early 80's in Britain and remain THE best band to have emerged from the 2-Tone era of ska. Led musically by the toothless keyboardist Jerry Dammers, the band also contained Terry Hall (lead vox), Neville Staples (vox/percussion), Lynval Golding (Rhythm Gtr/Vox), Roddy "Radiation" Byers (lead gtr), Sir Horace Gentleman (b. Horace Panter; bass) & John Bradbury (drums). From 1979 to 1981, they released 7 singles, 2 of which ("Too Much Too Young" & "Ghost Town") got to #1. By the time "Ghost Town" reached UK#1 on July 11, 1981 amidst massive street violence in the UK's major cities, The Specials had split. Jerry Dammers & John Bradbury continued under the name The Special AKA until 1985, as did Horace Panter to a certain extent. Roddy Byers left but made a guest appearance on one single, and Terry Hall, Neville Staples and Lynval Golding formed Fun Boy Three.

Nick Andre + E Da Boss: Demonstration mixtape

Nick Andre has spent the past couple years working on the indie-electro duo City Light and touring with Her Space Holiday, but his background remains true to hip-hop. He’s a DJ/producer and co-founder of Slept On Records, having working closely with biggies from the Quannum and Living Legends crews.
After writing a post on the Pharcyde for my I Used to Love H.E.R. series, Andre kept in touch, asking if I wanted to premiere a mix he and his partner E Da Boss (Gift of Gab’s DJ) were cooking up. Naturally, I said yes.
And here we have the finished product: A fresh, 18-minute mix of soul, funk and hip-hop vibes that includes a snippet from the great O.C. song Time’s Up: “I’d rather be broke and have a whole lot of respect.”
The mix is called Demonstration and Andre says it will be followed by a series of singles in the spring featuring Gift Of Gab, Z-Man, Jern Eye and more.
