POPSTARS AND COKEHEADS, GREG MIKEs first solo show, features hand painted pieces, sculptures, tee shirts, accessories, prints and collectibles designed and created over the past ten months.
The centerpiece of the show is an army of 100 hand painted soda cans that have been transformed into the kaleidoscopic POPSTARS AND COKEHEADS characters, a playfully sinister cast of unique and eye-catching creatures.
Supported by FREEMAVEN, the lifestyle brand, and THE ROWDY COLLECTION, Dallas Austins line, the show presents individual pieces from GREG MIKE as well as selected collaborations.
See the show at MEDICINE AGENCY (1262 Mason Street San Francisco, CA) on November 6th, 2009.

Turns out those leaks about a BlackBerry Bluetooth companion watch were dead on: The Allerta InPulse Bluetooth companion watch—not a watchphone—isn’t actually a RIM product, and should ship in February for $150. So what does it do?
Think of it as an extender for your BlackBerry, or a wrist-mounted dashboard. It won’t place calls or compose texts; it’s really just there to give you a heads-up and preview whenever your BlackBerry mothership gets a call, receives a message, or has some other, being-a-BlackBerry-related news to share with you. Also, yes, it’s a watch, for telling time. It may not do a whole lot, but the hardware sounds nice:

DAM FUNK is the LA man behind the renaissance of early-'80s styles known as Boogie, Modern Soul and Electro-Funk. We were lucky enough to have him come to the studio. He came armed with a selection of rare records and his fine voice to get the re-verb bouncing off the studio walls. His voice was arguably the smoothest we have ever had grace the DUM Radio mics, singing some tracks off his new album Toeachizown. He was having such a ball he insisted on staying on for an extra hour....

Graveyard funk and depraved disco all night with your hosts Chairman Mao (a/k/a “The Creature From the Wax Lagoon”) Monk-One (a/k/a “Funkenstein”), and G-Man (a/k/a “Wolfman Black”).
Very special live performances from Boogie legends: LEROY BURGESS (Black Ivory; Convertion; Fantastic Aleems; Universal Robot Band)
RANDY MULLER (Brass Construction; B.T. Express; Skyy)
In commemoration of the scariest night of the year, APT’s Saturday night gatekeepers, Chairman Mao and Monk-One, join forces for a celebration of hair-raising disco-boogie wickedness sure to please party freaks and midnight creepers alike. In addition to your ever reliable hosts on the wheels of steel, “Night of the Boogie Monsters” offers up – not just one, but two – frighteningly fun Halloween treats – live performances from a pair of the boogie genre’s true giants. Singer/songwriter/producer Leroy Burgess – whose repertoire (e.g. Convertion’s “Let’s Do It”, Black Ivory’s “Mainline”, Aleem’s “Get Loose” et al) practically defines the genre – will be on hand to lend his velvety voice to a few of his choice classics. If that’s not enough, legendary producer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Randy Muller will be in the mix as well, rocking his funky flute over a few of his finest creations (BC’s “Movin’”; Skyy’s “High” and “Here’s to You”; B.T. Express’ “Express”) – which just happen to be some of the greatest tracks in dance music history. With WBAI’s “Underground Railroad’s” G-Man manning the mic, it promises to be an evening as monstrous as its billing suggests. Boogie’s gonna getcha! Join us if you dare!
Over the summer I hit up NYC a few times & got to run into DJ Sabo @ Turntable Lab. Over the years through my friends J-Boogie (om records SF) & DJ Duane (Seasons Recordings | Fishing) I've gotten familiar with Sabo's music so it was great to chop it up with him about Serato/CD-J's/Vinyl's etc & many new tunes and sounds coming out.
He put me on to a few 45's of Cumbia music which I copped in the store. Fast fwd a few months & Sabo put out a really dope 12" of Cumbia related tunes on Bersa Discos.
Take a listen & download one of the tracks HERE (via FADER BLOG)
Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums would consider legalizing sideshows, or spontaneous gatherings that feature street racing and car stunts, in a designated area in order to cut down on injuries and deaths, according to his spokesman.
Dellums is interested in "how to solve the issue of endangering the community and endangering the youth in the community,'' spokesman Paul Rose said.
While the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum has come up in various discussions, Rose said the mayor has no specific plan, or location, in mind. "The mayor left it open, saying he's going to work with the police chief on the matter," he said.
New Police Chief Anthony Batts addressed the issue of sideshows at his swearing-in ceremony earlier this week. Shortly after being formally installed as chief, Batts said cracking down on late-night sideshow behavior would be an immediate priority.
Police spokesman Jeff Thomason said the department was stepping up patrols this weekend in response to the incidents.
"Friday and Saturday night, we're going to be out there," he said.
Batts and the department are "looking at different alternatives," and do not yet have a position on sanctioning the activities in certain areas, he said.
"However, the fact still remains that if people are going to break the law, then we're going to be there to enforce it," he said.
The idea of allowing sideshows in designated areas has come up at various times over the years, Oakland City Council President Jane Brunner said. In 2003, Councilwoman Desley Brooks proposed legalizing sideshows in designated areas, away from residential neighborhoods.
The Last To Survive (LTS) crew was founded in 1986 on the fault lines of South Central and Mid-City Los Angeles, California. Among the founding members were some of L.A.’s original graffiti artists: Siner, Jimer, Mark-7, Sane, Demer, and Ink-5. In the late 1990’s, Retna, Verse, Brail, and Ayer recruited the second generation, which brought the crew back, things started to change, momentum started to build. Today, membership spans from Hollywood to the Bay, from Denver and Nashville to London and Tokyo—each artist descending upon their urban landscape.
LTS has a very distinctive wildstyle that has been recognized for its originality and cultural substance. Drawing on the rich traditions of Latino muralists and gangster calligraphy, LTS style has evolved and transformed over the years. The unique LTS style came through the complex workings of the young artist’s minds surviving in the heart of a city that offered no refuge, yet something beautifully chaotic formed and various influences were mixed together. In effect, LTS has expanded the discipline of L.A.’s wildstyle, thereby establishing credibility among the worldwide graffiti community.
